I personally obtained my doctorate in record time at Grand Canyon University—a record that is still held today. While most take an average of 7 to 10 years to complete their doctorate, I finished mine in 2.5 years. What did I focus on? Words. Yes, words. I centered my research on the statistical significance between how succinct a student writes and how it can predict graduation success. This topic is tied to what I believe but have also proven to be true: that communication skills are the superpower in our ability to influence others.
I currently serve as doctoral faculty at GCU and have helped over 10 students graduate with their doctorate. I lead with empathy, grace, and support. Each of my graduated doctoral students has gone on to do amazing things, such as leading organizations in countless roles that tap into their research, including millennial leadership, proactive coping skills, military leadership transition to civilians, and much more.
